If you’ve tried purchasing or building a house lately—especially in the Portland area—you know prices are out of control. Like anything, there’s going to be people who love it, and people who hate it, but either way it’s worth reading up on, because it may have a huge impact in the area.
Here’s an article I just checked out from Builder Online, discussing PulteGroup’s outlook on trends for 2019. It’s your space, you do what you want, but it’s always fun to see what’s going to be trendy and what’s on it’s way out. Keep in mind, trends fade, so my opinion on home finishes is to keep it simple.
Take the Modern Farmhouse for example. I love it, I really do, and personally I think the layout of a farmhouse is timeless; it’s open, bright, lots of storage. But something like shiplap… use caution. Someday we may all be looking back on shiplap the way we looked back on shag carpet. But for now, it’s hot—I’d happily put it in a custom home.
